Error description

• Setting environment variable MQMAXERRORLOGSIZE for WebSphere MQ
  V6 does not always take effect, compared with its use for
  WebSphere MQ V5.3.

  all error log writes.

  PROBLEM SUMMARY:
  In WebSphere MQ V6, the intention is that the new QMErrorLog
  stanza should be employed to specify the maximum size of a
  queue manager's error logs.
  
  There is an environment variable, MQMAXERRORLOGSIZE, which was
  available in WebSphere MQ V5.3, to allow you to specify the
  maximum error log size. WebSphere V6 was re-coded to only use
  this environment variable for the system error logs (the log
  files under /var/mqm/errors).
  
  However, this effectively and unnecessarily modifies the
  behaviour of V6 compared with V5.3.
  

Problem conclusion

• Ensured that if the environment variable MQMAXERRORLOGSIZE is
  set then it will be considered with regard to the maximum size
  of all error log files.
  
  If a valid ErrorLogSize value is given within the QMErrorLog
  stanza, then this will override any MQMAXERRORLOGSIZE value,
  for the queue manager error logs.
