Are you the one who cannot live without social media – post here or twit there, like this, dislike that, share your opinion, link, start conversation… Or maybe you can’t stand it. Or you are just observing what is going on. No matter where you recognize yourself, social media is part of our lives today.
Social media changed the global business culture forever.

Businesses immediately recognized the potential of social media as the perfect advertising channel, but also as a powerful tool for internal collaboration. In the world of information explosion, mobile workforce and global interconnectivity, social platforms allow employees to quickly share or disseminate communication and knowledge, work on projects, ideas, or files together –from any place, at anytime. This improves working relationships and drives more flexible collaboration. Imagine how useful this concept might be to far-apart departments or international companies.
Moreover, social tools are often used by companies to engage with people externally and communicate with their clients, enabling customer-facing staff to address customer questions, concerns and needs — and sometimes help customers help themselves.

Enterprise Social Network is not just a distant global trend. Social collaboration is of strategic importance for South East Europe’s organizations as well. According to this year’s IDC research, 57% of SEE companies see enterprise social collaboration as necessary for maintaining their market position. This is in line with recent IDC study conducted among CIOs in our region where they found that IT investments are shifting from back-office applications (including Enterprise Resource Planning) to front-end solutions such as customer relationship management, sales force automation, online channels, call centers and social media.

Numerous companies in our region have already implemented social media projects. They are primarily focused on internal collaboration but later on they expand to address additional needs. These companies’ employees enjoy the privilege of using various solution capabilities, including activity streams, blogs, wikis, microblogging, discussion forums, groups, ideas, profiles, recommendation engines, tagging, bookmarking, chatting and more online communities. They can access it from anywhere, anytime. Just like having a perfect enterprise mixture of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Box, Youtube, LinkedIn, Gmail (you name it) – in-house.

For example, Croatian APIS IT Ltd., the company that provides strategic, professional and implementation services to the public and Government sector organizations, has been using IBM Connections to reinvent internal collaboration and as a powerful people-centric platform that goes beyond simple sharing of documents as well as Styria Media Group, one of the leading media groups in Croatia, Slovenia and Austria, uses a new social networking platform based on IBM Connections to encourage a deeper level of collaboration and knowledge sharing among 1000 employees.
