Q Replication and Event Publishing

Q Replication can replicate large volumes of data at low levels of latency. Event Publishing captures changes to source tables and converts committed transactional data to messages in an Extensible Markup Language (XML) format or delimited format. Each message can contain an entire transaction or only a row-level change.

Installing on Linux, UNIX, and Windows
With DB2 Database for Linux, UNIX, and Windows, you can replicate to DB2 family and Informix data sources. You can install WebSphere Replication Server to replicate to other relational data sources. When you install WebSphere Event Publisher you can publish changes to any target that can accept event notifications.
Installing and customizing on z/OS
Use this information along with the program directory to successfully install and configure InfoSphere® Replication Server 10 for z/OS® and InfoSphere Data Event Publisher 10 for z/OS.
Migrating to replication and Event Publishing Version 9
To migrate a replication or Event Publishing server to Version 9.7, the control tables at the server must first be at the Version 9.5 level.

Planning
Before you prepare to create Q subscriptions and publications, you should plan for special database constructs and workloads and also ensure that you meet memory and storage requirements for Q Replication and Event Publishing.
Preparing to create Q subscriptions and publications
Before you can create Q subscriptions and publications that specify the tables from which you want to replicate or publish, you need to create and configure your servers, ensure that they can connect to each other, and create control tables.
Creating Q subscriptions
Q subscriptions specify your sources and targets, the queues that are used to transport data, and other replication options. Q subscriptions differ depending on whether you are using unidirectional replication, replication to federated targets and stored procedure targets, replication from Oracle sources, and multidirectional replication.
Creating publications
With Event Publishing, you can publish changed rows or transactions from a source table to a user application. The Q Capture program publishes changes from a source table and puts those changes on a send queue. You are then responsible for having an application of your choice retrieve those messages.
Administering
After you configure servers and define your Q Replication or Event Publishing objects, you need to start the Q Capture and Q Apply programs to begin replication. Other ongoing administration tasks include changing definitions, maintaining source and target tables, and viewing reports about the status of replication or publishing.

Developing
Event Publishing captures changes to source tables, converts the changes to messages, and sends the messages through WebSphere® MQ to your application. You must develop your application so that it can read these messages. The messages can be sent in either as an XML message or delimited message.
